September's blog post (in October)

I have a recurring task on my phone to post something on this site each month. I keep snoozing that notification for quite a long time. But now I decided to find the time and do it and get it done for this month.

After the eclipse I'm considering to observe the the next one in 2027 too. However the hotels for the night before is ridiculously expensive. So there is a good chance I might need to give up on this. But so far I did not give up learning Spanish yet. I plan to commit to go or not go in February. I might need to bring a tent. But if the weather is hot and above 40°C maybe I need to skip it.

Another thing I'm considering is hardening the server this website runs on. I'm planning to buy and build a battery, the kind that's used with solar panels. So when the electricity goes out the server doesn't lose power. I'm also planning on having a back up internet connection so the server remains reachable when the internet goes out.

I'm also toying the with the idea of buying agricultural land and live off grid using only energy from solar panels. But that can only happen when AI finally takes my job. Perhaps I need to use Starlink to keep my website online then.

I basically stopped playing AoE2 after Activision took World's Edge. Because after that the enshittification of the game is on the way. I might still complete the campaigns later though. But for the time being I'm looking at the Linux RTS games that are available on the Debian 13 repo. I played with 0AD, but it's an unfinished game and does not seem to have a campaign. Then I've got the Warzone 2100. That does have a campaign and it's fun. I'm playing way too much with it recently.

I still have the fears about AI and the collapse it might cause. But I don't know for sure. There is a draft blog post about it too, but it's too conspiracy-ish so I didn't publish it yet.

I'm also worrying a lot about the loss of online privacy. It's so scary how surveillance is normalized. You data is uploaded to someone else's computer without asking, because cloud backups are the default. My stuff on my computer should be no one else's business. But if I talk to anyone about this, I'm called paranoid...

So that's what happened this month. I mark that pesky notification complete.
